Programme description: The Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering is the oldest at the University. It dates back to the 8 of April 1919 when the Council of Ministers established of the University of Mining. In 1939, at the Faculty of Mining there were already 292 students. Today the Faculty educates students who can take either a master\'s or bachelor\'s full-time course, graduate with M. Sc. or B.Sc. Actually, every year we graduate over 100 students in mining engineering.

The graduates are prepared to work in underground and open pit mines of coal, metal ores, salt and other minerals and in other mining plants dealing with the mining of mineral raw materials and in the companies of underground construction. They study modern subjects within mining technology, mechanization, geomechanics, blasting techniques, natural threats (rock bursting, roof falls, underground fire prevention, methane control, etc.) and geological background. Thanks to the access to the newest software and fast computers they can simulate mining conditions with numerical modeling. Students gain full qualifications entitling them to hold top management positions in a mine. They can be also employed in research and scientific centers for mining industry. They are also provided with a wide range of theoretical and practical knowledge in mining economics, organization and management in the mining industry. They can use modern computer techniques. During the study course we ensure practical trainings for the students in Polish very modern mines.

The Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering conducts a four-year full-time doctoral programme in: Mining Constructions, Designing and Reconstruction of Mines, Technique of Underground and Surface Mining of Deposits; Mine Ventilation and Underground Fires, Processing of Mineral Raw Materials, Mining Geomechanics; Organisation and Management; Environmental Engineering.

The Faculty co-operates with several universities and research centers from all over the world. These are: Technische Universität Clausthal, TU Freiberg, Rheinische-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Technische Fachhochschule Hannover, Technische Fachhochschule Georg Agricola, Bochum (all in Germany), Higher Mining School in Ostrava (Czech Republic), Miskolc Technical University (Hungary) Technical University in Huainan (China), Technical University in Assiut (Egypt), Universidad de la Serena (Chile), Rust Environment and Infrastructure in Denver (USA), Sankt Petersburg State Mining Institute in St. Petersburg, Dnepropetrovsk Polytechnical Institute (Ukraine).
Remarks: Beginning: Summer semester (Feb-June 2009),
90 years experience in mining engineering education,
