Multiculturalism Does Not Work?

Multiculturalism Does Not Work?

This evening 23 January 2015, 7:30pm -  the final concert in ICE Krakow Congress Centre.

Fear not! The project by the Ludwig van Beethoven Association, deliberately provocative with its politically incorrect question, by no mean undermines the legitimacy of the concept at the foundations of today’s European unity. Instead, it shows that in Europe of open borders and growing walls of xenophobia, discrimination and intolerance, we should seek to find understanding through culture.

The key elements of the project are international music and film competitions for works on the theme of multiculturalism. The best compositions, awarded by jury led by Krzysztof Penderecki and online voters, were Ignacy Zalewski’s Coexistence and Dai Bo’s Invisible Mountain, while the film contest was won by Paulina Koniuk’s animation Tłumiony szept. The winning works are presented on 23 January during the finale concert of the project “Multiculturalism Does Not Work?”. The ICE Kraków Congress Centre hosts one of finest symphonic ensembles from Scandinavia: the Trondhein Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Jacek Kaspszyk; the conductor also directs the Beethoven Academy Orchestra during a concert held on 29 January in Trondheim. The evening also features Schubert’s  Symphony No. 8 in B minor “Unfinished” and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 in D major “Classical”.

There will also be enduring parts of the project in the form of Maurycy Gomulicki’s installations: Muchomory, Obelisk and Piramida. (Barbara Skowrońska)

Free invitations will be available at InfoKraków points.
